Loved Cleo.
I loved this story and went on to purchase "At the Dukes Wedding" a romance anthology that included this story.
I really like this author and have since purchased and read several more of her books.
Here we have a very familiar story in a very short version. I actually liked that, because with this type of theme, it can really drag on before finally everyone realizes who should be together and who shouldn't. I liked it, was short, but that worked for me. I liked all the characters directly involved.
I love everything Caroline linden has written and this novella is right up there with the rest! Of course it's not nearly as complex or fulfilling as her novels, it is a novella after all, but I enjoyed getting caught up in the story even with its simplistic plot. She is a great writer and I adore her style and wit.
Few seem able to write novellas with satisfying, complete stories, with good character development, good plot pacing-no waste or excess of words. It was also free of editorial snags. This is a well appreciated work because it is complete, not rushed. You'll want to know more about some of the other characters, but they belong in their own stories.
This book was an excellent read. The characters were fun and as in all love stories, the story ended as it should. Getting to that point was entertaining. I especially liked Garreth and Cleo as a duo. Their personalities were so similar, but Garreth had to figure that out. Terrible influencing parents on Cleo's side. A good story of sisterly love.
Caroline Linden is one of my favorite authors. I always hate it when I'm nearing the end of one of her books because the characters are so well written I feel as though I am leaving good friends. This book was no different. Loved Cleo and there were times when I just wanted to smack her parents. The mother reminded me of the mother in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
This author has a knack for developing her characters and then bringing an unexpected twist into the story. Loved the happy ending in this one.
